If you feel like you've seen Jess's art somewhere, it's probably because you have! Jess's art has appeared in many publications and on countless apparel, stationary, and tableware products in major retailers across the world. Blending hand-made and digital techniques, Jess's distinctive style is a organic combination of flowing shapes, floral motifs, and lush color palettes. Described as a "unique hybrid of illustration and surface design", her surface design clients love that she approaches projects with the hand-made feel of an Illustrator, and illustration clients love that she brings a strong sense of rhythm and design to illustration assignments.
Jess graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2003 with a BFA in Illustration. While living in NYC, she worked in the publishing industry as an in-house freelance designer in the children’s book departments at Henry Holt, Scholastic, & HarperCollins. She also worked for several years as a textile designer selling her designs to some of the world’s top manufacturers. After leaving the city for the surreal life of the 'burbs, Jess plunged into illustration as a full-time career and has been running her own business ever since.
She now works extensively in the publishing, fashion, tableware, and stationary industries creating illustrations and surface designs for clients across the world. Clients and licensees love her keen eye for trend, cohesive design collections, and fresh color palettes.
Forever the entrepreneur, Jess also co-owns another business where she works closely with her illustrator/character designer husband Erik, creating original content licensing properties for television, toys, games and other products.
Besides creating, Jess enjoys games, chocolate, discovering new (and old) music, puzzles, all things science fiction, and (most of all!) spending time with her family. A native of Connecticut, Jess currently resides in New Jersey with her husband and their two ridiculously adorable children.
Read a lovely little interview with Jess in the December 2009 issue of HOW magazine!
